IO – On Thursday, August 20, 2026, the second day of SAPA 2026 transformed UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur (UPNVJT) into a vibrant global village. Rather than a standard orientation, the event served as a cultural exchange platform that brought together international and local traditions. International students proudly walked across campus in their national attire, showcasing the diversity within the UPNVJT community.
The true magic of this cultural exchange was captured when international culture met local traditions during the “Amazing Race: Indonesia Edition”. In a heartwarming display of cultural fusion, international students participated in classic Indonesian Independence Day games. The campus echoed with laughter as participants tried to balance marbles on spoons during the Lomba Kelereng. The joy continued through the Estafet Balon (balloon relay) and a hilarious Whispering Challenge, introducing them to local teamwork dynamics in the most entertaining way.
These traditional local games offered more than physical entertainment for the new international students. It served as a brilliant, interactive method to introduce Indonesian culture while instantly breaking down linguistic and social barriers. By playing these distinctly Indonesian games while wearing their home country’s traditional dress, the students symbolized a perfect harmony between honoring their nationality and embracing their new environment. This unique approach made adapting to Indonesian culture feel welcoming, joyful, and deeply inclusive.
The cultural celebration ultimately peaked during the spectacular Global Talent Showcase, where the spotlight shifted entirely to the international heritage. Adding a deeply personal touch, participants also brought and presented authentic cultural items from their home countries. They enthusiastically explained the unique stories and historical background behind these objects to the audience.
Delegates from Timor-Leste and Pakistan showcased traditional elements of their cultures, while students from Gambia, Kenya, and Sudan shared aspects of their African heritage. Participants from Myanmar, Tajikistan, Mongolia, and Thailand also introduced cultural traditions from their respective countries, creating a meaningful exchange of stories and experiences. This vibrant exchange proved that SAPA 2026 successfully transformed different cultures into one united community.
