UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur Forged a Partnership (MoU) with the University of Zululand, South Africa

KISE – On August 02, 2022, the University of Zululand, South Africa, and the University of Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation between the two parties for mutual benefit. The signing ceremony was held at the Ballroom Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur, and witnessed by representatives from Unizulu and UPNVJT.


The MoU was signed by Professor Xoliswa Mtose and Professor Sipho Seepe as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Zululand, and From UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur was signed by Dr. Ir. Sukendah, M.Sc. and Ir. Sutiyono, MT. as a Vice Chancellor I & III. Before the MoU signing, the event began with welcoming remarks by Mrs. Sukendah as the representative of UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur. At the beginning of the speech, Sukendah appreciated this cooperation and said that the collaboration would improve both universities in several aspects. Sukendah hopes the partnership between UPN and UNIZULU can benefit both parties.


Meanwhile, Professor Mtose, Vice Chancellor of the University of Zululand, said this ceremony is just the beginning. “I hope this ceremony today brings us together so we can enrich the institution around us. The expectation, of course, is that we will be able to achieve more and continue to develop even stronger relationships between Unizulu and UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur,” she said. She is also delighted that the University of Zululand has collaborated with UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur to run student exchange and initiated a few activities among the students. Professor Mtose closed her speech by saying thank you in the Indonesian Language, “Terima Kasih.”


The newly signed MoU serves as a general framework to encourage cooperation and collaboration in various areas of mutual interest between the University of Zululand and UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur. The partnership’s objective is to accommodate student, faculty, and staff mobility between the two institutions. Moreover, the partnership is aimed at developing research collaboration in the fields of mutual interest between research Staff and departments of both institutions. Also, the association fosters the exchange and sharing of teaching and educational materials, publications, references, and other pertinent information.


After signing the MoU, they were presented with a traditional Surabaya sparkling dance from UKM Tari. Surabaya Sparkling dance became one of the welcome dances for tourists coming to Surabaya. This dance is a blend of modern and traditional dance and also depicts the identity and spirit of the Surabaya City Community that is always shining. The MoU signing event ended with a networking session inviting the dean and faculty representatives. This session is designed for the representatives from the faculty to discuss the possibilities of collaborative projects.
