On November 25th 2020, UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur inaugurated the Joint Lecture Building (GKB) which also happened to be a National Teacher’s Day. The inauguration of the building was carried out along with the virtual exhibition of Effective Technology (TTG) and a state defense discussion.
The Rector of UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur, Prof. Dr. Ir. Akhmad Fauzi, M.MT. revealed that the Joint Lecture building will later be used for general courses, such as Religion, Bahasa Indonesia, English, Leadership, Citizenship, Entrepreneurship and State Defense courses.
GKB building can accommodate around 19,200 students to serve 8 General Courses lectures every week, which are professionally managed by the Head of the General Courses Program and the secretary of the General Courses Program along with the General Courses Coordinators.
Some rooms in GKB can also be used for laboratories for Study Programs. Not only that, an exhibition of Effective Technology (TTG) which is one of the featured programs of UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur was also held. “We already have 150 TTGs and are spread throughout Indonesia. We educate students to become entrepreneurs and start-ups, and we encourage them to become anchor tenants,” said Prof Fauzi.
This year, there has been 58 tenants that incubate at UPN, 11 of them are already anchored or have factories, companies and exports. “This is an honor for UPN “Veteran” Jatim to encourage young entrepreneurs. We hope that our alumni will not only look for jobs but can also produce them,” he added.
Prof. Fauzi said, this year his team would also implement “Independent Learning on an Independent Campus” (MBKM) with various programs that would be implemented. One of them is Permadi Program, a program where students can take lectures more than one study program. He added that for instance a Communication Science student would be able to take a computer or visual design courses. “One student can take other study programs. We give them opportunities for 20 credits in one semester so that they can take courses across different study programs,” he stated.
This program was attended by 450 students spread across 21 study programs and the objectives of which there were 54 courses taken. Also, Permata Sakti program was attended by 182 participants this year. If this program is cross-college, there are those who are able to study at UI, ITB, Merauke, Gorontalo, UNHAS Makassar. Not only studying at UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur but you can also study at other State Universities within a maximum of 20 credits.
Regarding this program, UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur also cooperates with 200 state and private universities in Indonesia. Also, there are about 50 overseas university and companies that are in collaboration with UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur. Hence, the fourth semester students should register first, then there will be accompanying lecturers until they finish the program. In other words, semester I to semester III students should only focus on attending lectures in their study program, then semester IV to semester VII students may take the transfer credit program. Lastly semester VIII students have to return for their final project, “he explained.
Furthermore, there are around150 students participate for company internships in one semester and their credits are recognized. “In one semester they can do an internship or help develop a village. Later we will admit it as field credit. For example, should there be a production program in a community, we will then propose the suitable study programs to handle the issue. There is a team that will calculate the credits,” explained Prof. Fauzi.
Finally, UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur also provided an ICT (International Credit Transfer) Program which was attended by 14 students who were sent to Australia, America and many other countries. In the future, these programs will be developed and increased in number. UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur works with large companies, such as Telkom, PLN, there are approximately 60 companies including overseas companies.
