Peer Teaching: Mahimma Romadhona led a fun game-based learning

KISE – In order to make teaching and learning in International Class run well, International Office & Executive Secretariat (KISe) UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur organized an English Training on “English as a Medium Instruction,” called EMI Class. This training aimed to upgrade English skills for lecturers and was successfully held from March 19, 2022, until June 25, 2022. The participants had taken a pretest to measure their current English proficiency on March 19 and April 1 before following this program. The class was divided into two sessions, English for Daily Communication and English for Medium Instruction, which reaped high enthusiasm from participants.

The first meeting started on April 2, 2022, with welcoming remarks by Mr. Nur Chakim, S.Pd., M.Pd., the Instructor. He delivered the outline material for EMI Class. The syllabus given was very concrete and related to the International Classes, igniting the lecturer’s interest in discussing and exchanging ideas.

Subsequently, Mr. Chakim would provide lecturers with a wide range of practical teaching activities to give the lecturers hands-on experience by using a peer-teaching method in each session. Each participant completed a teaching simulation and would get feedback from Mr. Chakim and other lecturers. The active participation and diversity of the material presented by lecturers from different fields of study made the peer-teaching atmosphere interactive and pleasantThis session helped lecturers to liven up the classroom atmosphere during the teaching process and equipped them to manage the International Class in the near future.

I like the good atmosphere on the teachers. The participants as well have good vibes in the class and also have great support with us that are still learning English.” (Adibah Nurul Yunisya, Architecture)

By the end of the EMI class, lecturers expected to acquire more knowledge about teaching and learning in International Class, enhancing student engagement and improving communication among students and teachers.
